Try GCV&M’s Historical Beers

Did you know that at GCV&M you can always find two historic beers on tap, brewed referencing 19th-century recipes and ingredients?

Fat Ox Ale is an American Brown Ale, and Stocking Hill Ale is an American Wheat Ale. Both are brewed by Rohrbach Brewing Co. in Rochester, NY. Visitors to History on Tap will have the opportunity to sample both, and buy pints! Elevate your experience by purchasing a salt-glazed stoneware beer stein, handcrafted here at GCV&M by our village potters.

Tour Grieve’s Brewery

Did you know that GCV&M is one of the only museums in the United States with a working 19th-century brewery? Grieve’s Brewery is a reconstruction of a c. 1803 brewery from Geneva, NY, with portions of Rochester’s old Enright Brewery (closed in 1907) and an early timber-framed structure from West Bloomfield, NY. Brewing demonstrations rely on gravity during much of the process, with liquids either pumped by hand or ladled into troughs throughout the building.

Take a tour through all 3 levels of our brewery and learn how in 1850, New York State became a leading producer of hops.
