The Winery Dogs give a masterclass in Rock

The Winery Dogs’ setlist at the Agora Theater in Cleveland on March 2nd, 2023 was nothing short of a sonic feast. This was their closest show to Western New York this tour cycle. From the explosive opening number “Gaslight” to the soaring encore “Elevate”, the band held the audience in the palm of their hand.

“Xanadu” followed, showcasing Richie Kotzen’s stunning guitar work, while “Captain Love” had drummer Mike Portnoy pounding out complex rhythms with effortless ease. “Hot Streak” saw Billy Sheehan laying down the bass grooves that he’s known for, driving the song forward with his trademark style.

But it wasn’t all about the instrumental virtuosity. Vocalist Kotzen showed his range and soulful delivery on “Desire”, while “Breakthrough” and “Time Machine” highlighted the band’s knack for crafting catchy hooks and melodies that stick in your head long after the show is over.

“Mad World” and “The Other Side” showed the darker, moodier side of the Winery Dogs’ sound, with haunting guitar lines and atmospheric textures. And when Sheehan stepped up for his bass solo, the audience was treated to a masterclass in groove and technique.

Of course, no Winery Dogs show would be complete without their signature song “I’m No Angel”, which had the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs. And the encore of “Regret” and “Elevate” brought the evening to a triumphant close, leaving the audience wanting more.

Overall, the Winery Dogs’ performance at the Agora Theater was a tour de force of rock and roll energy and virtuosity. Each member of the band was at the top of their game, delivering a performance that was both thrilling and awe-inspiring. It’s clear that the Winery Dogs are still at the top of their game, and their fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
