Rapids theater in Niagara Falls, NY just had the pleasure of hosting three big crowd drawing bands that kept the building rocking from start to finish! On Saturday 11.2.19 Simple Plan, State Champs and We The Kings performed to a jammed pack crowd in downtown Niagara Falls. Each band had a huge crowd response and really all were great live performances. For a Saturday night out this was a wildly entertaining show.
We The Kings dropped their sixth studio album called “Six” in 2018 and also have a new single out “Turn It Up” which of course was one of the songs played as well as “Sad Song” and a fan favorite from the masses “Check Yes Juliet” They also covered “Im Yours” by Jason Mraz and “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. Travis Clark singer/guitarist really showed his vocal range and talent with this own renditions very much enjoyed by everyone. Travis also quoting in recent interviews a new album is in the horizons, “2020 is lining up to be the year of the Kings!”. It is one thing to enjoy a band on recording and another in person and I would highly recommend catching a We The Kings show. Their pop punk sound and stage presence is both entertaining and captivating. The energy and interaction amongst themselves shows they’re just having a good time but also putting out catchy, body swaying, head bopping ballads. On a personal note I was able to catch the guitarist Hunter outside as he was heading to the tour bus and just a super friendly, down to earth guy that I now regrettably forgot to ask a picture with!

State Champs were the next in lineup and boy did they not mess around! Immediately the audience just about exploded with crowd surfers and the masses of patrons never let up! With singles being played like “Mine is Gold”, “Criminal”, “Crystal Ball” and “Dead and Gone”, the vibes were electric through out the whole set! With their New Found Glory, Story so far sound and ultimate stage presence it was no wonder the crowd was fully consumed! They are on this tour celebrating the band’s third studio album, “Living Proof”. While producing Living Proof, State Champs took an old school approach by writing and recording in garages while also combining forces with Mike Green and Kyle Black as they did for “Around The World And Back”. The proof in its success shows in their fan following and the crowds feedback that night. State Champs absolutely owned the stage and rocked us all out and was not expecting their live show to be as off the wall as it was!

Simple Plan came out with force and complete stage dominance. With a laundry list of singles that have always topped charts, we heard them all. Coming out with “I’d Do Anything”, “Welcome to my Life”, “Addicted”, and “Perfect” as encore their music spans since formation in 1999. Their newest single “Where I Belong” was performed with the singers from We The Kings and State Champs so that ending was pretty epic all in itself! They were excited to do this threesome of bands collaboration and its popularity is showing. Very lively, interactive showmen, at one point Pierre ended up in the back of the crowd at the bar area of Rapids, while constantly tossing picks. Their following from both over the Canadian border and the US was in full showing that night with every word to every song being sung back to them. It’s their enthusiastic, high powered punk sound that’s carried them through years of Warped Tours, five studio albums and an extended following both old and new. Personally I was quite happy to finally see them live after being a fan of theirs since the first album “No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls”. If you are a fan of the 00’s era of pop punk emo phase I would highly encourage seeing Simple Plan live or any of these bands for that matter. It was a great lineup and a fun concert to attend.
Since 2011, $1 of every ticket sold for a Simple Plan headline concert is donated to the Simple Plan Foundation, which has donated over $2 million to various charitable causes in Canada to help young people in need. The band continues their philanthropic initiatives on this upcoming tour, with the joint decision between Simple Plan and State Champs that all money raised will be donated to help children affected by the ICE immigration raids in the USA.
