Another beautifully warm summer day in Western New York leads us to another spell bounding show at Darien Lake with the likes of 311 and Dirty Heads.
Dirty Heads always receives a large and loud welcoming and response from crowds and didn’t fall short this time. With their Sublime and Shwayze sounds and vibes it is hard to keep your body from getting lost in their music. They opened with “Burn Slow”, gave us “Lay Me Down” with the very West Coast feel in the guitars and rhythms and then “Medusa” which is a personal favorite for its lyrical amusement and extremely catchy musical ballads. They did play a new song “Lift Me Up” with soft reggae tones. They ended the set with “Vacation” which features the Mr. Belding cameo in the video if you haven’t seen it I suggest you do. The crowd was roaring the whole set which appropriately so with horns blaring on the stage at one point, the bass and drums hitting very hard was an overall awesome performance musically.
Lights went down and a huge background screen on stage played a very alien, outer-space video with a countdown in high anticipation for 311. This has been a third viewing of their live show in the last 3 years for myself and I have yet to leave disappointed. Their undeniable sounds and music live is always high quality on top of being profound showmen. From their classics such as “All Mixed Up”, “Amber”, and “Down” even their newest singles “Better Space” that features Nick Hexum sounding like an Alien and “Don’t You Worry”. Their always insanely energetic, engaging and who could forget their always on point drum solo! Between Chad Sexton absolutely shredding in his own drum annihilation, the band brings out an addition two sets of two drum sets on stage and the whole band goes nuts! We were able to catch some pretty decent video of the drum session so go check out our YouTube page and see for yourself!
If you haven’t been able to catch 311 on a tour in the last 20 years you are truly doing yourself a disservice. Another great mix of bands to give an overall pleasurable music experience and a great Saturday night outing.
